Dance ‘til You Drop is a book I designed for a competition organised by the ISTD, exploring the dance marathon craze that swept America during the 1920s and 1930s. Participants would compete by dancing non-stop for extended periods, aiming to win cash prizes. I researched the topic, wrote the content, and sourced all the images, which I then curated into a visually striking and informative typographic book.
The display font used is Franklin Gothic, a well-known American typeface from the era of the dance marathons, adding authenticity to the design. I chose blue as the primary colour, reflecting its association with depression in American culture, which mirrors the struggles faced by marathon participants.
This project won an award from the International Society of Typographic Designers.
